Traditional Way to Make Candles

(Click on the pictures to enlarge them)

This is how our ancestors did it without fancy containers for homemade candles:
1. Hollow out holes into turnip, apple or any other root, hard fruit or vegetable.
2. Press a wick into each hole and straighten it with a wooden splinter on top. Fill with melted wax. (Traditionally it was tallow).
3. Wait until hardens.

4. Cut the "container" to remove candles.

No-waste option: clean, wash and eat, prepare in delicious dishes or feed to animals the remains of your candle containers. :)

Keep the good, wise traditions alive!
